Acrylic and fiberglass look smooth to the naked eye. Under a microscope, they're riddled with pores. Thousands of microscopic holes covering every square inch of surface.
Bacteria doesn't need much. A single pore becomes a colony. Colonies form biofilm. That slimy layer you sometimes feel along the waterline? That's biofilm. It's alive, and it's protecting the bacteria underneath from your chemicals.
So you add more chlorine. More bromine. More shock treatment. The chemicals kill what's on the surface, but the bacteria in the pores survives. Regenerates. Spreads. It's a war you can never win. Our Ecozone sanitation system finishes the job that the shell starts.
The Material Advantage
Our High-Density Polyethylene shell is completely non-porous. No microscopic holes. No crevices. No place for bacteria to hide, anchor, or reproduce.
The surface is so smooth that bacteria can't gain a foothold. It slides right off. No biofilm formation. No chemical arms race. The material itself is the solution.
Acrylic soaks up sanitizer, requiring more over time. HDPE is chemically inert. Your chemicals stay in the water where they belong.
No chemical reactions between the shell and your water. What goes in is what comes out. Nothing extra.
Acrylic shells have gel coats that crack, peel, and blister over time. HDPE is solid material all the way through. No coatings needed.

The Shell, Answered
Acrylic is porous at a microscopic level, so biofilm can establish on the surface and never fully scrub out. HDPE is non-porous and chemically inert, which is why it is used for food-grade and chemical storage tanks. There is nowhere on the surface for a colony to take hold.
No. Bacteria arrive with people, not just from the shell, so you still carry a sanitiser residual. What changes is that the tub is not fighting its own surface, which is a large part of why the routine stays short.
Drain, wipe, rinse, refill. There is no sealed finish to strip and no porous surface holding onto anything, so it is a genuinely quick job compared with scrubbing acrylic that never quite comes clean.
HDPE is UV-stable and has no bonded top layer to craze or peel. It will not develop the fine surface cracking that acrylic can after years of heat cycling.
